We have discussed the serious personal injuries that can arise from drunk driving car accidents and medical malpractice incidents. A drunk driving car accident typically lands individuals in the hospital where medical malpractice can occur, but most cases of DUI crashes and malpractice do not involve the same individuals.
That's what makes the story of one 50-year-old patient particularly unique. The man reportedly had an alcohol problem and four drunk driving convictions. The fourth conviction landed the man in prison, where an odd medical condition resulted in a series of operations and the eventual amputation of his penis, which the man believes was due to medical malpractice.
The 50-year-old man developed bumps on his penis while serving time for a drunk driving incident. The man was escorted to a hospital by a guard and was seen by a doctor who had a checkered criminal history. The doctor had also been sued by another patient whose penis became gangrenous after a botched penile implant.
Unfortunately the 50-year-old drunk driver's penis operation was not any more successful. The doctor allegedly striped the man's penis of its contaminated tissue, packed it with gauze and stitched it up. Other doctors who examined this treatment were puzzled by it but were unable to reach the urologist.
Despite the fact that the gauze should have been removed after a week, the gauze remained in the man's penis for almost three weeks. By then the man's penis was heavily infected and gangrenous. The man experienced multiple subsequent surgeries and subsequent infections which turned his hands and feet black. He says that he feels humiliated and lives in constant pain.
"I don't think they have enough money to pay me for what they've done to me," the man said.
Cases of medical malpractice such as this one are typically handled by personal injury attorneys. A lawyer can help hold a negligent doctor accountable for the damage that he or she has caused. The funds from a malpractice suit can help a patient recover from the physical and emotional trauma of medical malpractice.
